Rolf Johns - Founder / CEO

Rolf Johns started his professional career with a B.S. in Chemistry from Brigham Young University followed by doctoral studies in Synthetic Organic Chemistry at the University of California, Davis.

In 1987, he joined Morton Thiokol Corporation as a scientist, where he developed a new prepreg material for filament winding rocket motor cases. This material, called “TCR Towpreg,” offered easy processing, excellent performance, low cost, low hazard, and, most significantly, room temperature shipping and storage for up to one year.

Rolf’s work led to award of Thiokol Corporation’s R. D. Franklin Award for Outstanding Technical Achievement and, eventually, creation of a new business unit within Thiokol Corporation, “TCR Composites,” to produce and market TCR prepreg products. Rolf was appointed General Manager of the new venture and, over the next twelve years, established the TCR Composites business unit as a standalone operation with over $10M annual sales, 85 percent from outside the US.

In early 2007, Rolf facilitated sale of the TCR Composites business to a private investor and TCR Composites, Inc. was born. As Vice President and General Manager of this new company, Rolf oversaw the ownership transition and increased sales by 25 percent in less than one year.

By early 2008, he had left TCR Composites, Inc. and joined Zoltek Corporation as Vice President of Global Prepreg Business with responsibility to establish a prepreg business. In less than four years, by focusing mostly on automotive and wind energy applications, Rolf developed and qualified materials and processes representing over $80M annual sales.

In 2012, Rolf committed fulltime to a lifelong dream of building his own business by establishing GO Composites, LLC to provide services to the composites industry, benefiting from a lifetime of experience, ideas, contacts, and success.
